Getting Around Jackson Hole

We’re only one week past Memorial Day weekend and Jackson Hole is already seeing a significant increase in traffic congestion.  That quick 5-minute drive to the grocery store is now taking 15 minutes, and drivers are on high alert for visitors darting out between cars to take pictures or last minute braking for the wildlife or mountain shot.

Whether you are a local or a visitor and you want to get out of your car and take alternative transportation around Jackson this summer, here are a few ideas.

START BUS

Jackson has a fairly extensive bus route through the town, with additional routes to Wilson, Teton Village, Star Valley and Victor and Driggs, Idaho.  A ride around town is actually FREE!  There is no better way to save gas and take one more car off the road than with the bus.  Rates, routes and time schedules can be found at www.startbus.com.

BIKING

Back in the 90’s an idea was conceived to start building bike paths in Jackson Hole so riders would have a safer lane to travel on across town.  Today, Teton County has 53 miles of completed multi-use pathways and 69 miles when you include Grand Teton National Park.  You literally can bike from Teton Village, into Jackson, up to Dornan’s and into Grand Teton National Park, ending at Jenny Lake!   In addition to the pathways, the town and businesses have installed a number of bike racks throughout the area for safe storage of your bike while you shop or work.   Visiting and want to bike?  Jackson Hole boasts a number of businesses where you can rent bicycles by the hour or by the day.  This spring the Bike Share Jackson Hole was launched where you can rent bikes by the hour.  You can learn more at their website, www.jacksonhole.socialbicycle.com.

UBER

Uber arrived in Jackson Hole this spring much to the delight of locals and visitors alike.  While Uber is still in negotiations with the Jackson Hole Airport for pick-up, download the app and one of many Uber drivers will be at your doorstep in minutes.

HOTEL SHUTTLE BUSES

Many hotels now have their own shuttle buses that can drop you off at dinner, for a hike or pick you up at the airport.  Check with your hotel of choice and ask them about their options and pricing.

RIDESHARE & DUET

Two companies offer ridesharing apps for commuters to share rides over Teton Pass or south to the Star Valley area.  To learn about each, visit www.duetinc.com or www.tetonrideshare.com.
