New Travel ID Requirements

Do you have the correct identification to travel?

Regular airline travelers are starting to see new signage at airports, alerting them the Transportation Security Administration will begin strict enforcement of REAL ID requirements at airport security checkpoints starting January 22, 2018.

What does this mean for you?  If a passenger is using their driver’s license as identification, it must meet the REAL ID Act’s minimum standards.  These are the same standards set for federal facilities and nuclear power plants.  Many states have implemented these standards including Wyoming, but Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Washington licenses currently do not comply.

If licenses from these states do not come into compliance by next January, passengers will need to provide alternative forms of I.D. such as a passport, military ID or permanent resident card.

The REAL ID Act was enacted by Congress in 2005 to establish minimum security standards for state-issued I.Ds.  The Department of Homeland Security is working with states on compliance and if they have not met it by the deadline, they will need to have a negotiated extension in place.  For more information on REAL ID, click here.

While many of our members are seasoned travelers, we want to make sure our friends, family and visitors to Jackson Hole do not have their travel disrupted in the future.
