Get Out The Vote!

We are blessed in America to have the right to vote.  Unfortunately, it is a right many in this world do not have to ensure democracy.

Election Day is next Tuesday, November 8th.  On that day you have the opportunity to chose our President, as well determining who does and does not stay in office.  No matter what your political alignment, it is the day to express your opinion on the direction you want your country, state and local governments to go.  Many who are disgusted with the process, who don't like the candidates, or don't think their vote will make a difference are missing out one of the key elements that keeps our freedom in check.

Here are a few fun facts about election day.

 - Wyoming was the first state to allow women to vote on December 10, 1869.
 - Congress passed the 19th Amendment which allowed all women to vote on August 18, 1920, 51 years later.
 - In the 1800's election day was determined by the weather and farming.  Farmers were too busy in the spring, summer and fall with planting and harvest, so early winter was the best time to get them to the polls.  Tuesday was selected because it allowed people to attend church on Sunday, travel to town on Monday, vote on Tuesday and be back for the typical market day on Wednesday.
 - Congress set a fixed election day in 1845, the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.

Wyoming offers early voting at the County Clerk's Office if you can't make it to the polls on Tuesday.  A new voting rule that went into effect this year in Wyoming allows you to vote at any of the six polling station in Teton County.
