Supporting Our Firefighters

The smoke wafting across our valley this week from the Cliff Creek and Lava Mountain fires are a keen reminder of the importance of, and the dedication of our local volunteer firefighters.  We also recognize the US Forest Service firefighters who have come to our valley enforce to help battle the blazes attacking our surrounding National Forests.

We've all see the pictures of exhaust firefighters, their smoke covered faces, and helicopters and airplanes dropping fire retardant across the forests.  When the beepers go off during a Rotary meeting or the middle of the night, without question these volunteers head out to protect and preserve our community.

Over the next two months you have the opportunity to say thank you to these special men and women and support their efforts financially.

Wilson Fire Department Chicken FryWelcome to Jackson's biggest picnic - The Wilson Volunteer Fire Department 49th Annual Chicken Fry.  Don't miss this community event this Sunday, July 24th at Stilson Ranch parking lot from noon until the chicken runs out.  The events takes 80-100 volunteers to serve the ever increasing number of attendees who show up to enjoy golden deep fried chicken, open-fire potatoes, salad and dessert.   Last year over 4,500 people attended, consuming over 3,000 pounds of chicken!  Entertainment, cold libations and great community fun are a certainty.

There are two additional events where you can also provide your support.

The Hoback Volunteer Firefighters hold their annual barbecue on August 13th from noon to 4 pm at Snake River Ranch.  Look for the tent as you cross over the big red bridge.

You come to our ball, we'll come to your fire.  That's been the theme of the Jackson Hole Fireman's Ball for 76 years.  This year's event is September 4th at the Teton County Fairgrounds.  Gov't Mule and Blackberry Smoke are the featured entertainment.  Doors open at 6 pm and the event begins at 8 pm.  Tickets are $40 and available on their website.

We hope you will support our local firefighters and pray you will never need their assistance.
