36th Annual Old West Days


Old West Days 2016Summer officially kicks-off in Jackson Hole Memorial Day weekend as we celebrate the 36
th annual Old West Days.  Making it even more special, it is also the launch of The Wort Hotel’s 75th Anniversary.

Locals and visitors alike have the opportunity to enjoy a variety of Old West and New West events throughout the long weekend.  Here’s a highlight of the excitement:

Thursday, May 27

The Wort Hotel’s 75th Anniversary Kick-off Party runs from 9 am – 5 pm at the historic hotel.  Drop by the Silver Dollar Bar and enjoy “The Wort Hotel’s Anniversary Ale,” created by Snake River Brewery.  For more anniversary information, visit their blog

Experience what it was like to be a mountain man and fur trader at the Mount Man Rendezvous and Trade’s Row.  Located at the Teton County Fairground, visitors can drop by from Thursday evening through Monday.  Enjoy Traders Row, the Candy Cannon, Bow & Arrow Competition, Hawk & Knife Competition and Atlatal Competition.

Friday, May 27

Starting Friday and throughout the weekend, the Jackson Hole Historical Society and Museum offer a Free Walking Tour at 10:30am.  Meet at the center of Town Square for this fun and educational tour of historic downtown Jackson.  

Old West Days wouldn’t be the same without the opening of the Bar J Chuckwagon at 7:00pmf with Nationally Acclaimed Bar J Wranglers: You'll be served up a truly western style chuckwagon dinner and enjoy-world class cowboy entertainment!  Reservations Recommended. 307.733.3370.

Saturday, May 28

The centerpiece of the weekend is the anual Old West Days Parade at10:00am on Town Square.  This is one of the best horse-drawn community parades of the Old West.  Enjoy mountain men, vintage vehicles, covered wagons, and the legendary gathering of gunslingers of the West.  The route winds from the fairgrounds to downtown, find your spot and enjoy the fun.

The Indians of the Greater Yellowstone Museum opens at 10:00 am for the summer season.  Learn about the history of the Native Americans who settled in the Jackson Hole area.

Country Western Music, Kids Crafts & Activities, a Mechanical Buffalo, Demonstrations, Cowboy Poetry, Line Dancers, and a Cowpoke Rodeo are just some of the entertainment happening on the Town Square following the parade from 11 am – 3 pm. 

Old West Brew Fest  - 11:00am- 5:00pm on Town Square: Try a sampling of an age-old craft. Enjoy a variety of beers from regional breweries. If you have a vintage OWD mug, remember to bring it along to help reduce waste. This event has become one of the biggest Old West Days attractions. More than a dozen regional craft breweries will gather under one tent on Jackson Town Square offering their best beers to tasters and asking for their vote, with the coveted Golden Boot Award going to the brew with the most votes. 

Jackson Hole Shootout - 6:00pm on Town Square: Shootout gang on the Town Square, the longest running shootout in the country, since 1957. To learn more about the Shoot Out Gang, click here.

Kick up your heals Saturday evening at the Jackson Hole Shootout Street Dance - 6:30-9:00pm under the tent on Deloney Street. Join the Shootout gang, members of the JH Playhouse along with music by Never Sweat. All ages welcome.

Jackson Hole Rodeo opens its summer season Saturday evening, 8:00pm at Teton County Fairgrounds.  Bronc and bull riding, calf roping and lots of fun for the kids.

Memorial Day, Monday, May 30

Honor our veterans at two ceremonies.  The Mountain Man Memorial Day Ceremony will be at the Teton County Fairgrounds at 9 am, followed by the

American Legion Memorial Service at 10:00am on Town Square.
